Ikea Bowl self-powered speakers.

Yet another pair of small speakers! These are looking so good… Built from a couple of Ikea bowls, using a pair of  TangBand W4-657D drivers and powered with a TPA3110 chipamp placed inside one of the cabinets. It was great fun building this pair, and frequency response is remarkably good despite their size.

To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend this design if you’re in a tight budget. Those bamboo Ikea bowls are expensive!!
The Tangbands cost around 30 quid each. Add the lacquering, TPA3110 board, rca plugs etc, and you end up with a pair of speakers in the £150 range. Performance is OK but lacks some bottom end, as expected. Other designs in this price range would outperform this particular design but wouldn’t look half as good!!! And the building process is really straight forward.

  1. Hi! I really like your IKEA bowl speakers. What is the base that supports the speaker? Is it a rubber ring or it’s custom made? Thanks!

    • Hi Michael! Glad you like them. The speaker support is just the piece of bowl cut for mounting each driver in place. Then lacquered black and glued to the bottom of the speaker. Good luck if you plan to build them!! Maybe consider a BSC filter. Cheers
